HAIRDRESSING AT COLLEGE
REQUIREMENTS
TO QUALIFY FOR AN NVQ/SVQ/VRQ COURSE
YOU WILL NEED:
≠ If you’ve got lower than GCSE grade 4 (or C) in Maths and English, you will probably start on a Level 1 then progress to Level 2 the following academic year. If you’ve got the “desired” GCSE grade 4 in Maths or English, you will start at level 2.
≠ You have to demonstrate you are competent at Level 2 skills and knowledge before progressing to a Level 3 qualification.
FOR TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
≠ Technical qualification are open to those 16-18 and 19+. Entry requirements can vary depending on the provider, however it’s not compulsory to have previous knowledge or experience to start a Level 2 Technical hairdressing qualification.
≠ To enrol on a Level 3 Technical Diploma, it’s recommended that you have completed your Level 2 Technical Certificate or have equivalent industry experience.
ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS:
There is now also greater opportunity for mature students to enter hairdressing, with an increasing number of part-time courses allowing adults to study alongside other responsibilities, such as childcare or part-time employment.
